My favourite song in OAC/frosh was Metallica's "Until It Sleeps", my favourite album was Load - until the whole Napster thing happened and Metallica took such a hardass stand against it. In 1999, Napster was an innocent file-sharing, communication-revolutionizing toy, not the sinister music industry underminer we've come to love.
I had Load on CD (which I BOUGHT, thank you very much), and I had downloaded all the same songs on Napster. And when Metallica started bashing Napster so hard, I was so disappointed in those greedy bastards that I deleted all the songs and threw out the album.
Today, I'm taking back Load.
I haven't heard "Until It Sleeps", "Hero of the Day" or "Mama Said" in 8 years. It's almost like putting on the most comfortable pair of jeans you ever owned and amazingly, astonishingly, God-blessedly, it still fits after nearly a decade.
I won't be going to bed for a while.
