GAH!!! IT'S NOT ABOUT FAITH!! i was having trouble with it because i thought it WAS about faith, because i couldn't think of any other way to see it!! But if you view it existentially, relationally, then it's NOT about faith, it's about logic and philosophy!! I CAN DEAL WITH PHILOSOPHY!! YOU CAN QUESTION IN PHILOSOPHY!! freud said that religion is a dogma and therefore you can't question it or it'll all come tumbling down, and that's it's main flaw. he's right. that's why it's way better to have a philosophy than a religion- it's subject to questioning and change, not belief. which is why i was overjoyed when mathew pointed out that the way to solve the problem was to apply what i was studying. not about faith at all. nothing to do with faith. that's the cop-out, st. augustine, catholic way of dealing with it (no offence.) God IS a concept- that's why you can't apply physical words like "lift" or "rock"- it's like telling newton to read "a brief history of time." A) he's dead, so you can't, and B) einsteinian physics wasn't around, so he couldn't. NOTHING TO DO WITH FAITH!! (and yet again, this is why i was so overjoyed.)
mathew told me that jospeh (of aramathea, jesus' "stepfather") wasn't a carpenter, he was a rabbi- because hbrew doesn't have vowels, it was badly translated. if he HAD been a carpenter, he wouldn't have been allowed to have be with his wife until they were married. that bit always bugged me. he said the more likely explanation is that joseph was a RABBI and had taken mary, a single mother (naturally, if you believe in the immaculate conception) under his protection. ALSO, that would explain the lack of brothers and sisters. But mathew says that there are other books in the bible (like in dogma!) that DO talk about jesus' brothers and sisters, but since that would deny "mary is a virgin" (even i think that song from south park is horrible... john sings it whenever mary's mentioned), the books have been deleted, so to speak. man. talking to that guy was awesome.
Michelle's studying for her exam now, and i just went into the library to check email and suchlike. We went to coffeetime, it was fun- she's much more relaxed there. Tomorrow night's gonna be fun, she and i are probably going out after together, just the two of us, to hang out. at 3AM. i AM going to see jamie's project tho!!! :)
Happy. Checked with mike- he didn't bitch about me in a sexual context. feels good to have spoken openly with him again, means a lot. maybe one day it'll all be fixed up.
