I don't know why this is bothering me in particular so much. I mean, it's not my war. I don't know anyone who was involved. I just keep coming back to it.

I first became aware that Canada isn't the center of the universe during the Gulf War. I was in grade 5 or 6. It's a ground-shaking realisation, like discovering your parents can't fix everything for the first time.

And all I can think of is "Dogma." At the end of the movie, when Bartleby and Loki are killing people, and Bethany starts hitting Loki and screaming "Why? WHY? ALL THOSE PEOPLE!" And I just keep hearing it over and over- all those people! in her voice and with her face and for the first time I understand...
